Fairy Tales for Grownups
Vol de Nuit
The story of a fallen star,
an old mouse, and a retired pilot.
An old pilot sits against the cold engine of a plane that no longer flies. Above him, the first star opens its eye. He remembers what the sky once promised.
“Hope is like the stars in the night sky. Who would ever look up at a sky with no stars?”
희망은 밤하늘의 별과 같은 거야. 별이 없는 밤하늘을 누가 올려다보겠니?
The little red plane lifts past the last cloud and into the river of stars. The whole sky is a tide of light, and the pilot is young again — climbing toward the things he loves but can never hold.
“Perhaps God never wished for us to become stars — only to become creatures who could love them. And it is that love that makes us grow toward the sky.”
신은 인간이 별이 되기를 바라지 않았는지도 모른다. 다만 인간이 별을 사랑할 수 있는 존재가 되기를 바랐는지도 모른다.
“May you be not only a star that shines, but one that has fallen — and may you rise again to shine from the highest heavens.”
